I've spent over 10 years teaching Chinese at universities across four countries, and served as a Chinese language consultant for the United Nations. I started Effortless Chinese because I kept watching the same thing happen.

Students would sign up for courses, download apps, spend months memorizing words and grammar rules — and still not be able to hold a real conversation. They were putting in the effort. The results just weren't there.

The problem isn't that Chinese is too hard. The problem is that most courses skip the most important step: helping you actually understand what kind of language Chinese is.

When you don't understand a language at a fundamental level — how it thinks, why it's structured the way it is, what the culture behind it expects — every hour you study is less effective than it should be.
