I've taught Chinese in four countries for more than ten years.

I believe you learn a language by listening and imitating — hearing real Chinese again and again, then saying it the way native speakers do. Both steps have a gap.

Most listening materials are far from the Chinese people actually speak — and honestly, a bit boring. And most of them don't work for shadowing: too fast, too hard, too long to repeat after.

So I make two kinds of practice to fill those gaps.
